A recent ordinance has introduced new road safety measures for road tunnels, particularly for the San Biagio tunnel in Gavardo, where the speed limit has been reduced from 90 to 70 kilometers per hour. This change, part of the provisions of the ministerial decree dated June 20, 2025, stipulates that vehicles must maintain a minimum safety distance of at least 100 meters when the speed limit is set at 70 kilometers per hour. Additionally, where the limit is 50 kilometers per hour, the distance must be at least 70 meters.
Anas has already installed the necessary signage, and the new rules have come into immediate effect. The primary goal of these provisions is to minimize the risk of accidents, taking into account the specific characteristics of the tunnels and the existing fire safety systems. The technical interventions required for the adjustment of the facilities are planned for the coming months.
