In recent days, Gargnano has been the scene of sacrilegious thefts targeting religious statues of great sentimental value to the community. The first incident occurred in Villavetro, where a votive figurine was taken from a niche in a residence. Just two days later, another theft involved the Santella della Madonna di Lourdes, located between the hamlets of Roina and San Pietro, which had previously been restored by Father Elena. These acts of vandalism have caused shock and outrage among residents, who are now hoping for surveillance cameras to help identify the culprits. The stolen statues do not possess high commercial value, but they hold significant symbolic importance for the local community. Investigations rule out the possibility that the thefts were intended for resale or linked to satanic practices; instead, it is believed to be an act of vandalism lacking rational motivations, considering that the figurines were easily accessible and far from monitored areas. The community expresses the hope that the thieves will repent and return the statues to their rightful places, recognizing the profound meaning of these religious symbols for all local residents.
