The Mincio, near the regulating dam of Salionze, will be the focus of attention on Saturday, July 26, at 11 AM, when the Mincio Table presents the serious situation facing the river and proposals to mitigate the discharges from the Peschiera wastewater treatment plant. For decades, the plant has discharged its effluents directly into the Mincio, leading to the accumulation of eutrophic substances and a gradual deterioration of water quality. Despite requests to change the discharge point to reduce environmental impact, no concrete actions have been taken.
Senator Gelmini emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the connection between Lake Garda and the Mincio, highlighting how every action upstream has downstream consequences. The Mincio Table, made up of 35 local associations, calls for a unified and sustainable approach to environmental protection, with particular attention to the effects of large wastewater treatment plants on the river. The conference will take place on Strada Monzambano in Ponti sul Mincio, involving local representatives in the fight for the preservation of the riverine environment.
