Starting today, Sunday, April 6, an important monitoring campaign of the surface currents on Lake Garda is underway as part of the European project “Sarlakes”. This project will continue until Wednesday and aims to develop and validate advanced numerical models to describe and predict the behavior of lake waters, thereby improving their management. The initiative includes the installation of a network of buoys equipped with sensors and GPS along the Brescia shoreline of the lake, from Sirmione to Limone, with recommendations for cautious navigation in these areas.
The monitoring effort is supported by various academic and scientific institutions, including the University of Brescia and the University of Trento. During the activity, passes of radar satellites equipped with SAR technology are scheduled to acquire high-resolution images to be compared with data collected from the mobile buoys and the two fixed stations installed to monitor temperature, clarity, and other water characteristics. The results obtained will contribute to a better understanding of water dynamics in large European lakes.
