Scam Alert: Impersonators Pose as Carabinieri to Target Local Businesses
The perpetrators impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda regions, offering subscriptions to military magazines.
They are not military personnel but scams orchestrated by fraudsters who, at different times, claim to belong to the finance department, police, fire brigade, or the Municipal police.
How to recognize scams
They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement.
Therefore, be vigilant and immediately alert the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — at the first suspicion of being targeted by individuals who,
if they are after money, will no longer make an appearance.
