Scammers Impersonate Authorities to Trick Garda Area Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, police, fire brigade, or Municipal officers.

How to recognize scams

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately alert the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they are after money, suddenly disappear.
