Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Fleece Hoteliers and Business Owners

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the armed forces.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, police, fire brigade, or municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often offer subscriptions to non-existent magazines or ones that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who,

if they have money, disappear without a trace.
