Scammers Impersonate Police in Garda Region, Offer Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Medio and Alto Garda regions, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not soldiers, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the regular police, firefighters, or municipal police (Vigili del Comune).

How to recognize scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines unrelated to law enforcement agencies (le forze dell’ordine).

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, after obtaining money, suddenly disappear.
