Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Hoteliers and Shop Owners

They impersonate carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the middle and upper Garda area, proposing subscriptions to magazines of the Arma.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, each time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to react

They often offer subscriptions to non-existent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

So be vigilant and immediately notify the carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by those who,

after receiving the money, disappear without a trace.
