Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Hoteliers and Shopkeepers

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, proposing subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, police, fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

have money, and then disappear.
