Starting September 30, the Municipal Library of Sirmione will temporarily close to initiate significant seismic improvement and fire safety upgrade works. These interventions are essential not only to ensure the safety of users but also to comply with current regulations concerning public buildings.

Details on the Works

The works, which have already begun in the outdoor areas of the building that also houses the Lower Secondary School, will now focus on the interior. The Municipality of Sirmione has emphasized the importance of safety as one of its top priorities, aiming to strengthen the structure to provide a safe environment for both visitors and staff.

Funded through the PNRR, these interventions are an integral part of the municipal plan to enhance public facilities according to the latest standards in seismic resistance. Once the works are completed, users will be able to enjoy the Library in optimal and safe conditions.

Temporary Closure and Alternative Services

To allow for the completion of the works as quickly as possible, the Library will be closed for four weeks starting September 30. During this period, all lending and returning services will be suspended. However, users will still be able to access the services of libraries in neighboring municipalities such as Desenzano del Garda, Pozzolengo, and Lonato del Garda, which collaborate with the Library of Sirmione through the Brescia East Library System.

Redevelopment of Public Space

In addition to structural works, a redevelopment of the area between the Library and the Town Hall is planned. This project aims to transform the access space into a functional yet welcoming place, promoting social interactions among citizens and reinforcing the Library’s role as a cultural center within the community.

The Municipality reaffirms its commitment to promoting culture and the importance of social gathering places. These interventions represent a significant step towards creating safer and more innovative spaces.

Communication and Activities During the Closure

In the coming days, an informational campaign will be launched to ensure that all citizens are aware of the temporary closure of the Library. Various communication channels will be utilized to minimize any inconvenience experienced by the public.

Despite the library’s closure, some activities will continue to take place at the Social Resource Center in Piazza Virgilio. Courses such as Italian for Foreigners and various reading groups will find temporary accommodation there until the anticipated reopening on Monday, October 28.
