Sirmione hosted a significant event dedicated to the memory of the Holocaust, involving students from the local Secondary School and writer Edith Bruck, a survivor of that horrific chapter in history. The event took place on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the Municipal Library, in an online dialogue that followed a visit to the Holocaust Memorial in Milan on January 27 during International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The students had the opportunity to ask Bruck questions, exploring themes related to her childhood and the resilience she demonstrated despite the traumatic experiences she endured.
The mayor of Sirmione, Luisa Lavelli, actively participated in the meeting, emphasizing the importance of firsthand testimonies in educating new generations about the reality of concentration camps. Miria Bocchio, the councilor for Public Education, expressed gratitude to the teachers and organizations involved in organizing the event, highlighting how this meeting represents a crucial educational gesture to keep historical memory alive and to prevent the repetition of past atrocities.
