A carabiniere from Sirmione, Mattia Pittarello, performed a heroic rescue in Sicily, where he revived a colleague who had suffered a cardiac arrest. The news emerged on February 1st, when Mattia, 25 years old and with a background in the Army as a paratrooper in the Folgore Brigade, was alerted to the emergency. Despite the tension of the moment, he rushed to the scene to administer chest compressions, which allowed his fellow soldier’s heart to start beating again before the ambulance arrived.
The head of cardiology confirmed that Mattia’s timely intervention was crucial in saving his colleague’s life, who is now in recovery. Compliments have poured in: in addition to the appreciation from his superiors in the Carabinieri Corps and the local community, Mattia’s parents expressed immense pride for their son’s courageous act. With his decisive intervention, Pittarello has earned the title of “heroic carabiniere” in the eyes of the citizens of Sirmione.
