Step Back in Time at Parco Giardino Sigurtà in Valeggio sul Mincio on Sunday, September 20

The Parco Giardino Sigurtà in Valeggio sul Mincio will host the 11th edition of “Viaggio nel Tempo” on Sunday, 20 September, recreating the 19th-century atmosphere across its 60 hectares. The event will feature period horse-drawn carriages, historical dances, and staged settings, with more than 100 participants—dancers and reenactors—from associations in Verona, Florence, Rome, Milan, Turin and Trieste. If weather conditions are poor, the event will be postponed to Sunday, 11 October.

A central highlight will be a parade and elegance contest featuring 13 historic carriages, organized with the Gruppo Italiano Attacchi. Among the vehicles expected are a new 2026 wooden agricultural carriage, plus models such as a Dog Cart, Duc de Dame, Phaeton, and Vittoria, alongside two carriages from the Sigurtà family (Clarence and Governess Car). The day will also include live music by the Orchestra Sinfonica dei Colli Morenici, directed by Nicola Ferraresi, with dances ranging from quadrilles to waltzes and polkas, and performances involving young dancers and children in 19th-century outfits.

Other 19th-century attractions include a “Déjeuner sur l’herbe” setting inspired by Édouard Manet, a new village dedicated to period arts and trades, and a tribute space to Florence Nightingale, plus reenactors from the Voluntary Nurses Corps of the Italian Red Cross. Historic bicycles will be on display, and visitors can take part in carriage and saddle “baptisms,” while children aged 6 to 12 will receive a certificate. A discounted ticket is available online for those wearing an 1800s-style outfit, priced at €5.
