Desenzano is at the center of a heated political debate, with the opposition criticizing the recent decisions made by the Council regarding tax increases aimed at covering a deficit of nearly 2 million in the budget forecast. Current expenditure has risen from 38 to almost 40 million, and the group leader of the Coalition for Desenzano, Stefano Terzi, has condemned the proposal by Councillor Medioli to raise the municipal Irpef surtax from 0.4% to 0.5%, affecting over 23,000 citizens earning more than 18,000 euros. This increase compounds other already rising taxes, such as waste disposal and tourist taxes.

The minority also expresses strong reservations about the Council’s decision to invest one million euros in the Giro d’Italia, emphasizing that such expenses are unjustifiable in a context where tax revenues are insufficient. Andrea Palmerini from the Democratic Party has questioned the consistency of the mayor’s statements, highlighting contradictions between previous promises and current fiscal needs. The opposition is urging the Council to reconsider its economic choices and provide explanations regarding the decisions that impact citizens’ finances.
