The Tignale Truffle Festival 2026 returns across two consecutive autumn weekends on September 26–27 and October 3–4, showcasing the prized black truffles harvested across the mountain forests of Parco Alto Garda Bresciano.
Now in its twenty-eighth edition, the harvest gathering centres upon Gardola, the historic capital village of Tignale perched at an elevation of 555 metres atop the sheer western limestone cliffs overlooking the lake. To accommodate pedestrian tasting routes and artisan markets, Gardola’s historic core (encompassing Via Roma, Piazza Umberto I, Via Chiesa, Piazza Marconi, Via Campello, and Vicolo dei Mille) institutes full pedestrianization from 07:00 on Saturdays to 20:00 on Sundays across both event weekends.
Black Truffles from Alto Garda Forests
Unlike commercial agricultural festivals, Tignale’s event focuses on genuine wild woodland foraging. The mountain slopes flanking Mount Cas and the interior valleys of the Alto Garda Regional Park harbor thriving natural truffières beneath stands of downy oak, hornbeam, and hazelnut. Local foragers search for the summer black truffle (Tuber aestivum, known locally as scorzone) and the autumn black truffle (Tuber uncinatum), which mature through early autumn.
Throughout the two weekends, village trattorias and restaurants present dedicated fixed-price tasting menus highlighting shaved black truffle over handmade tagliolini, polenta, and poached eggs. The dishes pair directly with local products: raw-milk Tombea cow cheese produced in alpine malghe, Formaggella di Tignale, and organically cultivated extra virgin olive oil cold-pressed at the local cooperative mill.
Foraging Demonstrations and Guided Hikes
The festival schedule includes live foraging demonstrations conducted by master trifolau and trained hunting dogs, illustrating how the canines identify subterranean truffle veins without damaging root networks. Educational walking itineraries guide participants along panoramic trails connecting Gardola with historic hamlets like Aer and Oldesio, as well as the clifftop Sanctuary of Montecastello.
At the base of the cliffs along the lakeside road, the historical lemon house Pra de la Fam conducts specialized open-house tours, offering visitors an understanding of how centuries of citrus cultivation and mountain husbandry coexisted in Alto Garda.
