A tragic accident occurred on Sunday, July 7, 2024, in the San Zeno tunnel along SP 11, in the section that crosses Lonato del Garda. Around 3 p.m., a motorcyclist heading towards Brescia collided head-on with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction. The violent impact caused the motorcyclist to fall onto the asphalt, resulting in serious injuries that led to their death during transportation to the hospital in Desenzano.
According to an initial reconstruction by the Highway Police, the accident may have been caused by the driver falling asleep, causing them to veer into the opposite lane. Several emergency vehicles responded to the scene to assist those involved and to carry out necessary investigations. The road was temporarily closed to allow for rescue operations and the removal of the damaged vehicles.
