Lombardy Region has announced a significant step towards the implementation of a single digital ticket for public transportation, which will integrate trains and buses, during the conference “Lombardy at the Center of Movement: Challenges and Opportunities” held at Palazzo Lombardia. The regional transport assessor, Franco Lucente, stated that by 2028 citizens will be able to use a single travel document for all routes, paying solely for the distance traveled through an app. This project complements the introduction of 214 new trains on railway lines and the reform of Law 6/2012, aimed at creating a more integrated and efficient public transportation system.
The conference also addressed the new governance proposed by the reform of the local public transportation law, which aims to promote synergy among operators and ensure favorable fares for users. Lucente emphasized that the digitalization of ticketing will represent a true revolution in Lombard mobility. Additionally, new stops and dedicated lanes will be implemented to enhance traveler information, utilizing big data and artificial intelligence to optimize services and make them more sustainable.
