Valeggio sul Mincio is officially a candidate for Italian Capital of Culture 2028, as announced by Mayor Alessandro Gardoni. The town has joined the list of 25 Italian municipalities that responded to the Ministry of Culture’s call, highlighting the importance of promoting local culture and traditions. Gardoni emphasized the value of the territory and the need for a collective project that involves citizens and associations to narrate the identity of Valeggio and generate new development opportunities.
The path towards the candidacy includes the submission of a project dossier by September 25, 2025, which will contain cultural visions, territorial strategies, and economic sustainability plans. Antonio De Gobbi, the councilor for culture, stated that local traditions and cultural events are fundamental levers for this ambitious journey. The challenge aims to enhance not only Valeggio sul Mincio but also the entire Gardesana region, creating synergies for an inclusive and participatory future.
