They ask for money to refuel their car: new scam reported in Valle Sabbia. The Local Police thwarted a scam carried out by two foreign nationals in Vestone, charging them with fraud in complicity. The criminals, already known for this modus operandi in other locations in the area, would stop passing cars, claiming to have run out of gas and money. Pretending that their debit card was out of service, they solicited help from passersby who, unaware of the scam, agreed to take them to an ATM to withdraw cash.
The situation was noticed by several bystanders who alerted the authorities. The responding officers asked for explanations regarding their movements, and upon receiving unsatisfactory answers, they inspected the suspects’ vehicle. It emerged that the car was not broken down, and inside, there was cash believed to be the proceeds of illegal activity. After apprehending the two scammers, the police returned the money to the unfortunate victims involved in the scheme.
