A unique event will take place on Sunday, July 7th in Salò, organized by Tavolo Ambiente Garda and Presidio 9 Agosto. The event aims to raise awareness among the public about the issues related to the purification of the waters of Lake Garda, particularly regarding the controversial project involving the Chiese river.

The organizers have expressed concerns about a project considered “ill-conceived” for the management of wastewater from the towns around Lake Garda. According to them, this initiative has been mistakenly presented as a definitive solution to the lake’s problems. However, numerous committees and environmental associations argue that the project is unsuitable, unnatural, and costly both economically and environmentally.

The main issue highlighted concerns the lack of separation between greywater and sewage. This inefficiency leads to frequent episodes of pollution, especially after rainfall, when overflow outlets release contaminants into the lake. The situation has been further exacerbated by recent adverse weather conditions.

According to Legambiente and its “Goletta dei Laghi” initiative, microbiological data from 2023 shows a significant deterioration in the water quality of Lake Garda. The analysis indicates a deterioration compared to previous years, confirming long-standing concerns expressed by environmental groups.

In the face of these environmental emergencies, activists criticize the approach of local political authorities, calling it shortsighted and irresponsible. The organizers of the event demand a more effective intervention to address the true environmental emergencies of the lake, rather than investing in expensive and potentially harmful projects.

The informational walk will take place from 5 to 7 pm, starting from Piazza Serenissima and reaching Piazza Vittoria/Imbarcadero. During the walk, participants will carry banners and informative signs to raise awareness among residents and tourists about the issues related to the purification of the waters of Lake Garda. At the same time, a delegation will paddle along the lake’s shore in canoes.
