The Large Carnivores Report in Lombardy for the Year 2024 is now available, presenting a detailed analysis of the presence of species such as the brown bear, wolf, lynx, and golden jackal. This document, the result of the LIFE NATCONNECT2030 project, provides insights into wildlife monitoring, highlighting the activities undertaken to support farmers and beekeepers in preventing damage and managing emergency situations. In 2024, it is estimated that there will be 28 wolf breeding units in the region, with a distribution that also includes areas bordering other Italian regions and Switzerland.

Regarding the brown bear, the report indicates a population primarily concentrated in the Central Alps, with approximately 98 confirmed individuals. The presence of bears in Lombardy remains limited to the mountainous provinces of Brescia and Sondrio, with key areas identified around Lake Idro and the Stelvio National Park. Continuous monitoring of these species is essential to ensure a balance between wildlife and human activities in the region.
