Tombola El Fuff: local traditions of Toscolano Maderno in Brazil

The “El Fuff” tombola, a local tradition from Gargnano, has recently embarked on an unexpected journey to Brazil, specifically to Serra Gaúcha. The idea originated in January when Giovanni Saletti, owner of the newsstand “Giornali e Libri di Saletti e Ruffoni” in Toscolano Maderno, received a request from genealogist Claudio Diacoli, who was interested in obtaining a box of the tombola to present to a community of Lombard descendants during his tour in Latin America. Despite initial difficulties in locating the game, the Pro Loco announced a reprint that enabled Saletti to deliver the tombola and promotional materials to Diacoli. The tombola was then shipped to Brazil thanks to collaboration with the Friuli nel Mondo organization. From there, members of the community expressed their gratitude for this gesture, emphasizing how the game represents a cultural link between peoples. Currently, the “Fuff” tombola continues to be played in nursing homes and private residences in the area, thereby contributing to the preservation of the local traditions that characterize this part of Italy.
