Tourist tax in Brescia: Federalberghi criticizes the extension to 2026

The president of Federalberghi Brescia, Alessandro Fantini, has expressed concern regarding the recent announcement from the Council of Ministers, which indicates an extension of the incremental measures on the tourist tax until 2026. Fantini emphasized that this decision represents a step backward for the expectations of the sector, highlighting that the tax is already a significant burden for accommodation providers, who are forced to implement their own measures for its collection without receiving tangible benefits in return. Furthermore, he pointed out that the funds collected are often not used by municipalities for tourism promotion. Reports also suggest a possible increase in the tax in areas affected by the Winter Olympics, with a projected rise of 140% (from €5 to €12). However, regarding the province of Brescia, the impact of the Olympic Games on bookings is currently negligible. Fantini concluded by reiterating the call to avoid increasing the tax burden and to ensure that the resources generated from the tax are effectively allocated to benefit local tourism businesses.
