Italy’s Riva Dog Show: Competition, Exhibits, and Demonstrations

Beautiful, groomed, pampered, and trained like runway models, around 400 dogs will compete for the best in show title on Sunday, August 27, in Riva. Once again, the Gruppo cinofilo trentino led by Gaetano Turrini, in collaboration with a group of volunteers and the sponsor Frieskies, has organized the national dog show.

The event and the exhibition area

On the last Sunday of August, in the enchanting park of the Palazzo dei congressi di Riva, visitors will have the opportunity to admire beautiful purebred dogs from every region of Italy and several foreign countries. The Garda Riviera is indeed an attraction not only for dog enthusiasts but also for those taking a vacation along the lake’s shores, coinciding with the Riva event.

The evaluations and the competition

Dogs, divided by breed, will showcase their beauty in rings where expert judges will evaluate, based on a hierarchy of priorities, whether their morphological and behavioral characteristics conform to the official breed standard issued by ENCI. This segment of the show represents the sporting moment for dog enthusiasts, as they will compete for the CAC, a necessary point toward achieving the title of Italian beauty champion.

Shows and demonstrations

But the dog show also features entertainment: a demonstration of herding dogs working livestock, followed by the best in show with the proclamation of the “most beautiful dog”.

Practical information and registrations

The event for all dog lovers and those eager to get close to the most famous or most peculiar dog breeds (by appearance, size, coat, etc.) is scheduled for Sunday, August 27, at the Palazzo dei Congressi. Meanwhile, owners of purebred dogs can register their four-legged friends for the Riva show.

The first registration deadline is set for August 6, while the final deadline (with a 30% increase in the registration fee) is August 17. For more information or to register, contact tel. and fax 0464/505863.
