Brescia Shoreline Noise Confirmed as Source of Garda Lake Disturbance

They were rave parties, beach parties with loud music. Regularly authorized by the administrators of the Brescia shoreline. Here is the source of the noise that kept the northern Garda Verona awake on weekends last summer. This was discovered by the Malcesine hoteliers’ association. Its president, Ugo Treccani, also took pen and paper to ask the Malcesine administration to intervene with the neighboring municipalities.

The protests and the causes of the disturbance

Not only Torri, Albisano, Pai, and San Zeno di Montagna, then, had been affected by the persistent, endless tun-tun-tun noise coming from the opposite shore. Malcesine had also been impacted. Treccani reports having received “repeated protests” from hoteliers of the “pearl of the lake.” Hoteliers who, of course, also expressed their disapproval (think of stronger and more colorful synonyms…) from their clients.

“Based on information gathered,” says the president of the Malcesine hoteliers’ association, “the origin of the disturbance, for our town, comes from Limone and is due to authorized musical events organized by local youth on the beach. I don’t know if these disturbed the other southern towns. I don’t think so. However — adds Treccani — I can suppose that they were disturbed by similar parties held in Campione sul Garda or neighboring villages.”

Reflections on the source of the noise

This is the summer mystery solved. We discussed it on the pages of «L’Arena». Around ten o’clock every blessed weekend, an unbearable, pounding, endless bass sound in techno music style emerged from nowhere: tun-tun-tun for hours until 2:30 a.m. It was impossible to defend against it. Taping up doors and windows to prevent the heat was pointless. The overwhelming sound traversed walls and windows. Then, at midnight, silence returned, but by then, relaxation was gone.

The only certain thing was that the obsessive noise came from the Brescia coast, perhaps amplified by the lake surface or the mountain slopes. The mayor of Torri, Alberto Vedovelli, when the disturbance reappeared at the start of summer (there had already been problems the previous year), had asked the local Carabinieri station to carry out checks. The torri marshal, Walter Vanzani, took an interest in it, also in collaboration with colleagues from the Brescia shoreline.

But these were informal controls, because no one had filed a proper complaint. In fact, there was a complaint, but the Torri Carabinieri could not be aware of it, since the Malcesine hoteliers had sent it to their municipality. One can hope that preparations for the next season will be made in time: “Please, free us from the tun-tun-tun that keeps us awake,” residents and tourists plead. Angelo Peretti
