Barilla Expands Castiglione Plant to 11 Lines, Boosts Biscuit Production
Two new production lines. They increase from 9 to 11, as Barilla will inaugurate next Tuesday the expansion of the Castiglione delle Stiviere plant with the presence of the Minister of Agriculture and Forest Policies, Honorable Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio.
The lines will be dedicated to shortbread biscuits. The company has invested 70 billion lire to realize them.
Development and Hiring
Barilla has more than doubled its number of employees in Castiglione over four years: in 1996, there were 208, and today there are 450.
Two key moments characterize this significant growth: the transfer of the crackers line from San Martino Buonalbergo (Verona) and the acquisition of the biscuit line from Parma.
Production and Recognitions
Castiglione has already reached the national top in baked products and ranks among the top positions in Europe. The production includes Mulino Bianco biscuits and crackers.
The Mantuan plant produces the ‘Grancereale Croccante’ biscuit, which recently won the ‘Silver Trail 2000,’ awarded to the best European confectionery product.
Barilla, which produces pasta (in Pedrignano) and confectionery (in Novara), has made Castiglione the biscuit hub.
