Brescia 20th Century History Series for Teachers at Lake Garda

The history of the twentieth century will be the main focus on Lake Garda between February and March. At the headquarters of the Direzione didattica di Salò (near the municipal swimming pool), four meetings are scheduled, open to teachers of elementary, middle, and high schools in the Brescia area of Garda, from Tremosine to Sirmione.

Details of the Series of Meetings

The series is titled «The Brescia 20th Century: Between General and Local History». Teachers can register until today (fax 0365-521296). The course aims to «deepen and expand knowledge related to some thematic issues of 20th-century history, with particular attention to the historical process of the Brescia territory».

The program, shared by headmistress Luigiana Ghirardi Lanfranchi, begins on Thursday, February 8 (from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.) with a presentation by Luciano Pilotti from University of Pavia, who will discuss the economic and social formations of the recently ended century.

Upcoming dates and topics

Another confirmed date is March 27 (also from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.): Ivo Mattozzi from the University of Bologna will propose methods for studying local history in connection with general history: in practice, this is the theme that provides the title of the course.

The dates for the other two meetings are still to be decided, one of which will take place on a Thursday in March. It will feature Sandro Fontana, former vice-president of the European Parliament and former director of the Popolo newspaper, who will focus on aspects of everyday life in the 20th century.

An additional afternoon with participating teachers, who will divide into working groups, is also to be scheduled. The course director is Paolo Caioli from Itis Lonato.
