Valle delle Cartiere Conference on Preservation, Environment, and Heritage

Today, March 3rd, in the auditorium of the middle schools of Toscolano Maderno, a conference dedicated to the Valle delle Cartiere will take place. A day of study and in-depth analysis, organized by the Soprintendenza ai beni ambientali (Superintendence for Environmental Heritage) and the Comune (Municipality), with the patronage of the Comunità montana Parco (Mountain Community Park).

Projects related to conservation and enhancement will be discussed, focusing on environment, architecture, and the history of work. After greetings from the mayor Paolo Elena and the Soprintendente Sylvia Righini Ponticelli (at 9:30 am), speakers will include Carlo Simoni («The natural environment of the valley»), Michele Conti («Geological features: identification of issues and proposed interventions»), Gianpietro Brogiolo («Archaeological research and interpretation of the sites»), Luca Gnali («Reuse hypotheses and funding policies»), Antonio Zavaglia («The role of the Region in new territorial planning»), an expert from the Ministero per i Beni e le Attività culturali («Our commitment to environmental restoration of the valley»), the vice president of the Provincia Stefano Saglia («Work museums») and Paolo Nastasio («Interventions by the Mountain Community Park»).

Afternoon interventions and discussion

The afternoon session, held in the conference room of the paper mill, will feature Luigi Mancini, president of the Agenzia parco minerario dell’ Alta Val Trompia (High Valley Trompia Mineral Park Agency), Pier Paolo Poggio, scientific director of the Fondazione Micheletti (Micheletti Foundation), Girolamo Marchi, CEO of the factory, and Giampaolo Treccani («For the protection of overlooked sites around Lake Garda»).

Following the debate, which will include a contribution from the Associazione «Cecina Promotion», the session will close with Alberto Cavalli, president of the Provincia.

Guided tours and current situation

Tomorrow, Sunday, it will be possible to enter the valley for guided tours. The municipality has arranged road repairs after removing the company responsible for the Comunità montana that, by lowering the ballast level by 40-50 centimeters, had halted work due to the rains and had not resumed, despite repeated requests.

The mayor, enraged, took control of the situation, ending the delays. As a visible sign of protest, the «decision-maker» Elena subsequently resigned from the role of leader of the Polo in the Comunità, chaired by the Forza Italia supporter Bruno Faustini. Additionally, on Wednesday, during the approval of the preliminary budget, all the majority representatives of Toscolano Maderno were absent.

Finally, it is worth reminding that the three tunnels in the valley still need insulation.
