Rotary Donates Van to Support Disabled Clients at Anffas Garda
The Anffas del Garda Ovest e Valsabbia will have a van for transporting its clients. The delivery of the vehicle will take place in June, but the formal handover was already arranged in recent days.
The donation is the work of Rotary Castello, one of the five clubs present in Brescia. Rotary began raising funds a few months ago after learning, last October, about the transportation difficulties faced by the Garda branch of Anffas.
There was a need to upgrade the fleet with a new van equipped to transport disabled patients. Members of “Castello” pooled together the necessary 57 million lire for the purchase of a vehicle that meets these needs: capable of seating nine people and, most importantly, featuring a lift platform for wheelchairs.
Significance of the Donation
During the evening, which saw the handover of the purchase deed for the van, the reasons for the importance of this donation were explained. “The van,” said Rotary Castello President, Arturo Bersi Serlini, “allows for the transportation of clients, who, after the school term ends, find themselves in a difficult position.”
They can therefore be more easily taken to the three centers where work activities are carried out. These centers are managed by volunteers from the Garda Anffas, such as the shelter home intended for the most severe cases.” The support provided by Anffas del Garda Ovest e Valsabbia, whose office is located in Maderno at the former Villa Zanardelli in via Roma, will be showcased to Rotary members during the event organized from June 1 to 3.
During this occasion, the Rotary leaders will be hosted by the section presided over by Giovita Ronchi and will hand over the equipped van. This is the first donation of its kind by Brescia’s Rotary. Previously, last November, a donation was made to the Civici Musei, comprising display cases for prints and drawings.
The Presence of Rotary in the Province
Rotary is represented in the province by 13 clubs. Castello is one of five clubs, along with Brescia, Brescia Nord, Brescia Ovest, and Vittoria Alata, all based within the city walls.
It belongs to district 2050 and has 63 members. The club is presided over by Dr. Arturo Bersi Serlini, whose term will conclude at the end of this rotary year, set for June 30, since the rotary year — it’s important to remember — runs from July 1 to June 30.
