Castiglione Schools Upgraded with 8.4 Billion Lira Investment (1998-2001)
Between 1998 and 2001, the municipal administration invested 8.4 billion lira in schools. It is the assessment of Giuseppe Bertoli, the education councilor, to outline a summary of the work carried out in favor of the schools in Castiglione delle Stiviere. Funds allocated for facilities, in collaboration with the department of public works, as well as for activities related to teaching.
Interventions on School Campuses
The largest expenditure was aimed at building the new San Pietro preschool, which cost 3 billion lira and is now ready for inauguration. Children will transfer to the four new classes, freeing up space in the elementary school building.
Approximately 2 billion lira was spent supporting the activities of the institutions through the right-to-study plan for the years 1998 to 2001. The two gyms in Belvedere and Gozzolina, now in the phase of detailed design, will involve the administration with 1.3 billion lira, and will also be available for community use.
The new kitchen for school cafeterias, located in an industrial area ready for the company managing the service, cost 1 billion lira. Another 550 million lira were allocated for maintenance of various buildings, 350 million for high schools including new classrooms and a contribution for the 700-seat auditorium, 150 million for updating one-third of the furniture in all campuses, and 50 million for the new Gozzolina cafeteria.
Future Projects and Allocated Resources
An important commitment that will continue next year with additional renovation works at Gozzolina, completion of the gyms, and maintenance activities. «The administration has allocated most of its investment resources to the school sector,» comments Bertoli with satisfaction.
Regarding the regional high school, which is under provincial jurisdiction, we have taken steps with planning interventions and with a contribution of 300 million lira for a new auditorium.» Just recently, the call for bids has been published for the ‘Francesco Gonzaga’ project. Bids will be examined on August 1st, with a provisional award of the contract.
The works must be completed within 305 days, about ten months from the date of the handover report, which will follow immediately after the final award, owing to the urgency reasons provided by law.
