Neighborhood Calls for Road Safety Measures and Green Space Investment
With a letter addressed to the mayor and the councilors for Public Works and Urban Planning, the representative of the Musicisti-Prato Verde neighborhood, located to the left of the former Goitese, raises some issues of the area with the town hall, which have been repeatedly brought to the attention of the administrators but never addressed constructively.
Primarily, this residential area, which is experiencing further expansion, faces difficulties due to the traffic that crosses it daily in large volumes.
“We ask that the speed of cars and trucks on Leoncavallo and Toscanini streets be limited – writes representative Barcaro – through the installation of appropriate fixed deterrents. Also advisable is the adjustment of the intersections between Leoncavallo and Carpenedolo streets, on one side, and Toscanini and Cavour streets, on the other, with traffic islands to delineate the roadway.”
Traffic and Road Safety Issues
According to the residents living in the neighborhood, this way those entering the two main arteries of the area will necessarily have to slow down.
Another issue raised by Luigi Barcaro is the continuous passage of heavy vehicles.
“It is necessary to prohibit transit along Toscanini and Leoncavallo streets for those heading towards the industrial area,” he writes. “Productive activities are constantly growing, and the sector already has dedicated access to the new ring road.”
The accidents occurring at the neighborhood intersections are increasing, and the letter sent to the municipality emphasizes that a consultation among residents revealed that the issue of speeding is particularly felt.
“Are we going to wait for a serious accident before acting?”, questions the representative.
Barcaro also requests the administration’s commitment to purchasing a land area for public green space and to checking the existing water network: “It is twenty years old,” it states, “and with the ongoing construction we do not want to find ourselves in an emergency water situation overnight.”
The representative finally admits that some requested interventions have been carried out, citing the landscaping of the green area in via Puccini and the installation of mirrors and signals at intersections.
“But what good are they if vehicles do not respect the speed limits and speed past, ignoring pedestrian safety?”, concludes Barcaro.
