Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Hoteliers in Garda Area

They masquerade as carabinieri when making telephone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately contact the carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, after getting the money, disappear.
