Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Target Garda Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurant owners in the middle and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines affiliated with the force.

They are not members of the military, but rather scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often present offers for subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

So be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve fallen victim to individuals who,

after receiving the money, disappear and are no longer visible.
