Garda Area Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Steal via Fake Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the mid and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines associated with the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the regular police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize the scams and how to react

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those with no connection to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, after receiving money, disappears without a trace.
