Garda Scammers Pretend to Be Police, Warns Carabinieri

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering magazine subscriptions from the arml.

These are not military personnel, but con artists who, from time to time, claim to belong to the financial police, the regular police, the fire brigade, or the municipality’s police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately contact the Carabinieri – just dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, after receiving the money, disappears.
