Garda Area Scammers Impersonate Police to Sell Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal officers.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri – just dial 112 – as soon as you suspect that you have targeted by someone who, after taking the money, disappears.
