Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Hoteliers and Traders

They impersonate Carabinieri when contacting hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

So, be alert and immediately notify real Carabinieri – simply dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by those who,

after receiving the money, disappear.
