Garda Fraud Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Local Businesses

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, proposing subscriptions to magazines of the armed forces.

They are not military personnel but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, general police, fire brigade, or municipal police force.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often offer subscriptions to non-existent magazines or magazines unrelated to law enforcement agencies forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who,

having the money, disappear without a trace.
