Garda Area Scammers Pose as Police to Target Local Business Owners
They impersonate Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to arm magazines.
They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the financial police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Comune (Municipality) police.
Recognizing scams
They often offer subscriptions to non-existent magazines or to publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.
Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have fallen prey to someone who,
if they have money, vanishes and no longer appears.
