Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Hoteliers and Business Owners

They impersonate Carabinieri when making telephone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — just call 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,
