Scammers Impersonate Police in Garda Area, Authorities Warn

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the financial police, ordinary police, fire brigade, or municipal police force.

Recognizing the scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to the law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately inform the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect being targeted by individuals who,

if they have money, disappear and are no longer visible.
