Scammers Impersonate Police to Sell Fake Magazine Subscriptions
They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.
These are not genuine military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the financial police, police, fire brigade, or municipal police force.
How to Recognize Scams
They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.
Therefore, be vigilant and immediately report the incident to the genuine Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,
if they are after money, disappear and are no longer visible.
