Garda Scammers Impersonate Authorities to Trick Local Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, craftsmen, and restaurateurs in the Mid and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to the army magazines.

They are not military personnel, but scammer who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, police, fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

Recognizing the scams

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those unrelated to the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

would want money, no longer shows up.
