Garda Fraud Alert: Scammers Impersonate Police for Phone Scams

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to army magazines.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, ordinary police, fire brigade, or Comune (municipal police).

Recognizing the scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications unrelated to law enforcement.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

has money, and then disappears.
