Garda Fraud Alert: Carabinieri Impersonation Scams Targeting Local Businesses
They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to army magazines.
These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to be affiliated with the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal Police.
How to recognize scams
They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.
Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,
if they are after money, tend to disappear.
