Garda Scammers Impersonate Authorities to Trick Hoteliers and Shops

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, proposing subscriptions to military magazines.

They are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance authorities, the police, fire brigades, or the Municipality police.

How to Recognize Scams

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they are after money, tend to disappear.
