Lupine and Bear Sightings Spark Concerns in Trentino Amid February Predations
Wildlife activity in the region has increased, with confirmed wolf presence reported through sightings and predation incidents in February. Six sheep and one donkey were attacked across various locations, with fencing issues identified in some cases. Additionally, a woman in Rabbi was scratched by a wolf-like canid, and six wolves were hit by vehicles, resulting in multiple fatalities.
Bear activity was confirmed starting mid-February, with footprints found in Tenno and damage reported at poultry farms in Toss di Ton, where an adult bear injured a dog and killed chickens. Authorities are offering materials for electric fencing to protect livestock, with free application for farmers and potential subsidies for complex installations. Two golden jackals were also spotted in Tesero, marking increased predator presence in the area.
