Montichiari Unveils New San Luigi Gonzaga Medallions on Canonization Centennial
On March 26, Montichiari’s Casa Bianca Day Center will host an event commemorating the 300th anniversary of San Luigi Gonzaga’s canonization. The event will feature the unveiling of new religious medals by artist Oliviero Filippini and the presentation of the book “San Luigi nelle immagini popolari,” exploring the saint’s iconography and devotion through history.
The program includes speeches by local officials and scholars, including Giancarlo Mattioli, who will analyze Gonzaga’s visual representations, and Filippini, who will discuss his new medals. The book, co-authored by experts in Gonzaga iconography and history, traces the evolution of Gonzaga’s imagery from youthful purity to mature Christian iconography, highlighting its role in shaping his religious-moral narrative. The event is free and open to the public.
