Summer Exodus: A4 Brescia–Verona–Vicenza–Padua Monitored for Risky Driving
Autostrada Brescia Verona Vicenza Padova has unveiled its 2026 Summer Exodus Plan alongside updated findings from the “Osservatorio Stili di Guida” monitoring programme, covering the motorway network managed by the company. The data were updated to May 2026 and are promoted by A4 Holding, with technical-scientific support from ATraKI (a spin-off of the University of Padua), using a sample made mainly of regular drivers and integrating service-area interviews added from 2024.
The results point to several risky behaviours. Improper mobile phone use stands at 11.3% of drivers, while heavy vehicles have decreased from 20% in 2022 to 11% in 2026. Speeding is also widespread: on the A4 Brescia–Padova, 16.8% of cars exceed 130 km/h and 85% of heavy vehicles travel above 80 km/h; on the A31 Valdastico, 37.7% of cars and 98% of heavy vehicles drive over the speed limits. On the A4, 42.4% of light vehicles keep a following distance under two seconds, and among more than 300 interviews, 60% reported driving above the limits in the previous month, 42% said they read messages or checked social media while driving, and 36% reported driving in conditions of severe drowsiness.
To tackle fatigue, the Abertis Foundation launched the campaign “Ciao, sono Gianni, ti offro un caffè” ahead of the summer travel peak.
